Welcome!

More than 157 years ago, God called a small group of people in Galveston, Texas, to witness and minister in Christ's name to this port city on the Gulf of Mexico. A few faithful people planted and nurtured seeds that grew into what First Evangelical Lutheran Church is today.

Throughout the generations, people of faith and hope have responded to God's call and have overcome many obstacles to erect buildings for ministry to allow people to meet, share, and bolster their faith in God.

Ministries

The Parish Life Committee offers a wide variety of opportunities for service to our Church. It encompasses both the social and emotional aspects of our life as a family of worshippers.

Ministries for service include, but are not limited to the following:

Nursery sub-committee - keeping the nursery and its furnishings clean and the supply of snacks and beverages well stocked.

Kitchen sub-committee - organizing, cleaning, and stocking the kitchen for on-going projects.

Funerals - serving a meal is offered to families after a funeral service is held. Food is prepared and brought to the Parish Hall for this meal.

Coffee Hour in our Parish Hall after the 10:00 a.m. service- serving a cake or cookies along with beverages to those who wish to stay, visit, and get to know their fellow members better. The second Sunday celebrates the birthdays and anniversaries of that particular month with a special cake.

Kids Bags provide a quiet and creative diversion for small children during the 10:00 a.m. worship service.
